Maya Abdominal Massage Training
December 11 - 13, 2026
Maya Abdominal Massage Training with Lucy Culum
Learn Maya Abdominal Massage in an immersive training rooted in ancestral knowledge, body awareness, and respectful connection to Maya tradition.
This training is led by Lucy Culum, a Tz’utujil Maya practitioner from San Pablo La Laguna, Sololá. Lucy grew up surrounded by traditional knowledge of plants and abdominal massage and has spent the past several years deepening her practice in Maya Abdominal Massage and Tuj (Temazcal).
Through guided instruction and hands-on practice, participants are introduced to techniques traditionally used to support abdominal wellbeing, release tension, encourage circulation and digestion, and cultivate a deeper relationship with the body.
The training offers an opportunity to approach this ancestral practice with respect for the culture, community, and land from which it originates.
During the training, you will:
- Explore the foundations and principles of Maya Abdominal Massage.
- Learn gentle, precise abdominal massage techniques through guided practice.
- Deepen your understanding of the relationship between the abdomen, overall wellbeing, and traditional Maya perspectives on the body.
- Learn directly from Lucy’s experience and connection to Tz’utujil Maya traditions.
- Practice in the peaceful, nature-immersed environment of Kawoq Forest.
- Have the opportunity, depending on availability and consent, to practice with volunteer Kawoq Forest collaborators as massage recipients.
- Receive supporting study materials and resources to continue integrating what you have learned.
- Receive a certificate of completion at the end of the training.
This experience can be valuable both for those exploring Maya Abdominal Massage for their own personal learning and for wellness practitioners interested in expanding their understanding of traditional bodywork practices.
More than learning a technique, this training is an invitation to listen to the body, learn with the hands, and approach ancestral knowledge with presence, reciprocity, and respect.
